Enjoy you glide – in the Hawaiian Waters

Not only Skateboarders are constantly looking for a great ride, there are so many related board sports and we love all of them. The newest addition to the family of board sports is Stand Up Paddling or Stand Up Surfing. This sport has more in common with longboarding that it might appear at first sight. Both sports are easy to learn and are very accessible and…they both come in a large variety of disciplines.  I personally enjoy the sport mostly for its workout potential and the „Downwind Racing“ aspect. Catching an open ocean wave is a very unique experience and is very addictive right from that first glide.

Catching a ride/glide is always fun. Jenny Kalmbach from Hawaii enjoys hers

This weekend I had the pleasure to be part of the worlds most prestigious Stand Up Paddle race the „Molokai2Oahu“ a 32 Mile race (51Km) across the Channel between Molokai and Oahu called the Kaiwi Channel. All the people in this race a die hard Ocean Paddlers and enjoy one thing the most: Catch a nice glide on one of the rolling open ocean waves and being pushed by the wind.

Our friend and Kaimana Longboard designer, Sonni Hönscheid from Germany was in the race as well, paddling the 51 kilometers solo. I was assigned on the media boat covering the story of Sonni and the race for the Stand Up Magazin. Sonni entered the race as kind of a dark horse as she is mainly competing on flat waters in Europe. Even more so her third place in the women category was absolutely phenomenal, she defeated some of the best Hawaiian water women and engraved her name in the list of the worlds top elite paddlers.

The whole JUCKER HAWAI’I Team is very proud of her and we wish her all the best of success in her future races.

Her art will also be on display in Sylt from the 17th of August to October 6th 2013 at Kamphüs in the town of Kampen.
